From ANDRAS JONES: Synchronicity aside, this podcast is pure Dream Master gold. You’ve got John Easdale from Dramarama, performing a duet of “Anything, Anything” with Nightmare 4 star Tuesday Knight (who sang the film’s opening song) as the answer to a question from Toy Newkirk who played Sheila Kopecky in the film. Oh, and I’m hosting. You can listen now and hear it in all it’s synchronistic scatalogical glory but I’m going to share a brief anecdote about something that happened directly after this session.
Sometimes when we’re wrapping up a taping of R8B the next show in the studio at Starburns is “Beyond Yacht Rock”, which is one of my favorites. This particular Tuesday night as I was cleaning up the studio and waiting for Matt to upload my tracks David Lyons from the BYT podcast came into the studio to eat a sandwich and go over his script. I love any chance to geek out with these guys about music but, to my surprise, instead of talking Toto, we ended up talking Dramarama. Turns out this yacht rocker was obsessed with Dramarama in his college years and was pretty impressed that John Easdale had just been in the studio so I said, “You want to hear the version of Anything, Anything he just laid down?”
“Um…YES!” was his enthusiastic response.
As the song played the cynical veneer of the arbiter of fake genres slipped and his inner fan boy started to show. And when Tuesday’s voice came in I think he said something like…
“Who the fuck is that?! She’s killing it”
When I told him it was Tuesday, my N4 co-star who sang the film’s theme song David just leaned back, allowing the music to wash over him and said, “I love living in Hollywood”.
I hope you like this as much as he did.
“Anything, Anything (I’ll Give You…)”
OK, what is it tonight?
At least just tell me what the hell is wrong!
Do you want to eat?
Do you want to sleep?
Do you want to drown?
Just settle down, settle down, settle down!
I’ll give you candy
Give you diamonds
Give you pills
Give you anything you want
Hundred-dollar bills
I’ll even let you watch the shows you want to see
Just marry me, marry me, marry me
I’m so sick of you tonight
You never stay awake when I get home
Is something wrong with me
or something wrong with you?
I really wish I knew, wish I knew, wish I knew
I’ll give you candy
Give you diamonds
Give you pills
I’ll give you anything you want
Hundred-dollar bills
I’ll even let you watch the shows you want to see
Because you married me, married me, married me
Married me, married me, married me
When I was young I learned a game
Where love and happiness were the same
Now I’m older and I don’t play
I found out the hardest way
I got wasted, she got mad
Called me names then she called her dad
He got crazy and I did too
Wondered what I did to you
I gave you candy
Gave you diamonds
Gave you pills
Gave you anything you want
Hundred-dollar bills
I even let you hear the songs I want to sing
I’ll give you anything anything anything
I’ll give you anything anything anything
I’ll give you anything anything anything
Anything anything anything anything…Anything…anythiiiiiinnggg…
