I See Hawks in LA
From ANDRAS JONES: PAUL GAILUNAS is a member of the extended I SEE HAWKS IN L.A. family. He’s also, as it turns out, and old high school classmate of FORD PIER who was a guest on a previous episode we recorded in Canada this spring. Paul’s question is about comedy and, like a good laugh, it was infectious. This is when our sessions started to take a more hilarious turn, including a preview of the “RAWK TALK” podcast that currently only broadcasts in the band’s touring vehicle. TONY GILKYSON returns to the studio to accompany the band on their randomly chosen musical answer.
WHITE CROSS
I saw her on St. James street
She looked the other way
Now all the uptown hustlers say
The deal has been delayed
Good friend, if you’re a gambler
Don’t bet on me too long
Cause the angels say they love me
But they know I took their song
So I do another white cross
That’s the country blues
It’s the only thing I ever learned to do
Good times didn’t suit me
I had to taste the pain
In the Oyster Palace back room where
The night is always day
I played a little guitar
Dealt a lot of stud
With the spirits round my ankles
Like the Mississippi mud
Now I’m doing another white cross
That’s the country blues
It’s the only thing I ever learned to do
Well the first one goes down bitter
Then you kind of like the taste
And someone had to lose and
Payback happens every day
If you play the devil’s music
You know he likes to come along
I know the angels love me
Even if I did them wrong
On the hill I see a white cross
I sing the country blues
It’s the only thing I’ll never ever lose
