From ANDRAS JONES: Radio8Ball welcomes Vancouver singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist (and cancer survivor) SARAH WHEELER to the realm of The Pop Oracle as our musical guest. We’re going to get to know Sarah and her friends really well over the next 8 days and in so doing learn a little something about the Canadian culture from which they spring, from their graveyard composers to their doomed 70’s daredevils, but before we get into that there is my question. Those who follow the show are probably used to my getting choked up and/or actually crying during my question. I remember the last tour I did in 2001 I was almost always on the verge of tears while playing and singing my songs onstage. It made it really hard to relax my vocal chords and deliver the songs fully. At the time I had this fantasy about beginning every gig by just sitting onstage and crying for 3 to 5 minutes and then getting on with the show. I never tried it on that tour but with Radio8Ball that’s sort of what happens sometimes, as in this episode where we talk about my ghosts including my father, Martin Luther King and my old bandmate from The Boon, Josh Clayton-Felt.
ON THE MOUNTAINTOP
music & lyrics by Sarah Wheeler
We’ll walk down through the valley
We’ll seek until we drop
All true hearts will rally
Upon the mountaintop
We’ll cast aside the selfish
We’ll set aside our pain
We’ll ride out in the sunset
Once again
I am the hunter and the prey
I am the darkness and the day
I am the winter and the rock
I’ll be your lover
On the mountaintop
On the mountaintop
You beckon to me, I hear your call
We kiss, beneath the waterfall
Through fire and winter
Through feast and rage
To you my darling
My heart’s always engaged
