From ANDRAS JONES: When BEN CAPLAN joined GEOFF BERNER for a Pop Oracle session in Vancouver he spoke to us by phone. I hadn’t yet seen his face. Imagine my surprise when I realized, upon looking for images to post with this podcast, that I had been in the sonic presence of human muppet. With a social conscience! Ben created the play “Old Stock: A Refugee Story” inspired by the true stories of Jewish Romanian refugees coming to Canada in 1908. The play features the Geoff Berner song “Traveller’s Curse”. In this reading Ben’s question about art and commerce gets a fowl and profane answer steeped in Jewish lore.
