From ANDRAS JONES: Our musical guest ABBY WEEMS of the band Potty Mouth recently started playing bass with the band Bad In Bed. That outfit’s leader MARY KOBAYASHI joins us for a musical divination about her/our future in the web of social media before departing on an internet-free cruise with Aimee Mann, who she is a hired cat for.
It’s always kind of amazing to me looking back after the fact how perfect the answer is in ways we just couldn’t see in the moment. Could there be a better answer to Mary’s question?
“I don’t need to know the future ’cause I have drawn a picture” – We are living in a constructed reality that makes us unaware of the perils (and positives) of our future.
“and I can see you feel like me” – We are mistaking agreement for truth.
“I don’t need to know what’s coming ’cause it’s so obvious” – What is the obvious thing coming for all of us? Death.
“No future told, I know my road” – This is a description of a dystopian singularity. Time is ended and our path is pre-determined by the machines we created.
BULLSEYE
I don’t need to know the future
’cause I have drawn a picture
and I can see you feel like me
I don’t need to know what’s coming
’cause it’s so obvious
and I can see you feel like me
no future told, I know my road
when we’re apart I know
It feels like the time goes slow slow slow
and when we’re apart I know
it feels like the time goes so slow slow
but I don’t mind cause we have the time
we don’t need the day together
because we have forever
and how is it so damn easy
for just one thing to please me
no future told ’bout when we’re old
