Pat MacDonald
&
Andrea Wittgens
From ANDRAS JONES: PAT MacDONALD formerly of the band Timbuk 3 is a musical ally of our guest ANDREA WITTGENS and the creator and impresario of The Steelbridge Songfest. The Songfest has loomed large over this episode, as it has inspired so many of Andrea’s songs, so it’s good to get a chance to talk to the main man behind this event I hope to attend one day. The Songfest’s origin tale is a good one and includes a reclaimed vintage mid 20th century motel and Jackson Browne. I’m pretty sure Pat and Chris Chandler have crossed paths in activist songwriter circles so today’s randomly chosen Pop Oracle song syncs nicely.
POP ORACLE Song of The Day (May 29, 2019): CHRIS CHANDLER & DAVID ROWE “For Cath Number…Oh, I Forgot”
YOU ALWAYS COME WHEN I CALL
Andrea Wittgens / James Hall
Got your machete and your combat boots
You want to make a deep cut, hit em’ at the roots
You can come after midnight
Come in the dark
But You always come when I call
Hanging out the window leaning in your door
Whispering my name from the mattress on the floor
Over on the table, a loaded .44
You always come when I call
You always come when I call
Cant deny the feeling, the money in your fist,
State got a witness, cross them off the list,
Head down, don’t you try to resist,
You’ll always come when I call.
You always come when I call
Call me sister
Call me brother
But I’m your lover, that’s all
And you always come when i call
Tell me you had a change of heart
You can lie to my face and try to switch the parts
Twice as fast but you’re never too smart
Cuz you always come when I call
Shut yourself out with the voices in the hall
3 am, wipe the sweat off the walls
20 minutes max I got you begging like a dog
Cuz you always come when I call
Call me angel
Call me devil
But I’m your master, that’s all
And you always come when i call
Say you can own me
All my beauty and my charms
Say you found nirvana
With track marks in your arm
You always come when I call
Straight life boy, now you’re riding with the freaks,
People go missing here every week,
You can try to get free, if that’s what you seek,
But you always come when I call
you always come when I call
