From ANDRAS JONES: Singer-songwriter KATE VARGAS is yet another one of our musical guest ANDREA WITTGENS‘ talented friends. Kate’s question is inspired by the book The War of Art and regards “the resistance”. Sometimes when these podcasts come out they are such a synchronistic bullseye in my life that I can’t even tell you the whole story. This whole New York series has been like that. Starting with my question from Anya Marina’s episode about turning my tragedies into comedies and right up through this session with Kate and Andrea, these readings have been landing with nuclear impact where I am. Sometimes the resistance comes from our own psyche and sometimes it comes from outside. It’s kind of a chicken or egg thing. Does the internalized resistance just exist or is it created by outside resistance? Considering I’m well into the cycle the point is moot and the only thing that really matters is how I navigate it.
Pairing today’s randomly chosen song by Amelia from the R8B app with Andrea’s answer to this question we get “The Last Pariah” and “Step Into The Light”. Both are death card kinda songs; Andrea’s beckoning and Amelia’s lamenting. Andrea is very much with us. We lost Amelia to cancer many years ago. Listen to them back to back and you’ll know my heart. I am balanced between their yin and yang of song and existence. If you are too you have my sympathy, my solidarity, and all the inspiration I can share.
POP ORACLE Song of The Day (May 30, 2019): AMELIA “The Last Pariah”
STEP INTO THE LIGHT
James Hall/Andrea Wittgens/Connor MacDonald
Soldiers off to war
Girls who live next door
Old men and their shadows
All will face the gallows
Return to us
That’s where you came from
Fall into dust
That’s what we’re made of
Knowing there’s no hell or heaven
Give up the ghost
Lay down your arrows
Head to the coast
Eye on the sparrow
Step into the light all knowing
all knowing
all knowing
Youth who wanted more
Rich who blame the poor
Screen stars in their trailors
Prisoners and their jailors
Return to us
That’s where you came from
Fall into dust
That’s what we’re made of
Knowing there’s no hell or heaven
Give up the ghost
Lay down your arrows
Head to the coast
Eye on the sparrow
Step into the light all knowing
all knowing
all knowing
Now you know the story
No need for your worries
Return to us
That’s where you came from
Fall into dust
That’s what we’re made of
Knowing there’s no hell or heaven
Give up the ghost
Lay down your arrows
Head to the coast
Eye on the sparrow
Step into the light all knowing
all knowing
all knowing
