From ANDRAS JONES: At the beginning of this episode I asked how thoroughly I can indulge my kink for talent and I have to say, the Pop Oracle has been paying off with particular potency. Today’s reading with Christian Gisborne of Velvet Starlings is the pinnacle expression of the kind of talent overload that really gets my third eye off. Getting to sing backing vocals with Bart Davenport, Willie Wisely and Colleen Green on “You Really Got Me” is like something out of a dream I could never explain to anyone. But here it is. It happened! As we Jews say on Passover, “dayenu” = “it would have been enough”, but this episode just keeps on giving. For example, granted 8 rock and roll wishes, a reunion of the band The Kinetics would be right up there for me, and just this week, in the middle of Bart Davenport’s performances it is announced that they are getting back together for a show in the Bay Area on July 12th. I don’t know how I’m going to be there but I know I will be. Point is, that’s as kinky as it gets for me; following synchronicity to go see the reunion of a band I love that almost nobody else knows even existed but meant the world to me? Oh yeah, that’s my spot. But it doesn’t end there, not by a long shot. I LOVE the cover art for these Kink sessions created by Tony Montana whose own first record “Got Geeked” is dropping right in the middle of this episode. The ever aesthetically insightful Willie Wisely echoed my thoughts exactly when he said of the cover, “We really look like a band!”. I was calling drunk on wine and inspiration to remind him to use our Kink episodes to promote his residency at The Hotel Cafe this spring and summer and his digging the cover was yet another sweet kink sync for me. Mr. Wisely liking the look of anything I do is very high praise. He truly is a dedicated follower of…not fashion…style. As I run through all these opportunities to get off on talent I can’t help but think how my mom just got her own first solo show as a painter this week. As my dead psychologist father would surely recognize, there is massive relief in knowing one’s mother is creatively fulfilling and challenging herself in ways that, because of her, I have always been able to, and felt some guilt about because she hasn’t. Thanks dad. Thanks mom. Now I can let go of the guilt and even more thoroughly indulge my own kinky satisfaction in having created this opportunity for myself to revel and participate. Do you get me? Do you really get me? Oh, you really got me now!
Velvet Starlings will be back for their own whole episode (June 2 thru 9) to coincide with their UK tour, and this episode is only half way done. We haven’t even gotten to the two headliner questions from kinky horror porn star Diana Prince and the keyboardist for the mother fucking Who, Loren Gold. We still have performances from Colleen Green who just kills it on the bass on this one, and I even get to play a Kinks song from the Muswell Hillbillies record.
Look at that picture above. Three of my absolute favorites playing one of my absolute favorites with smiles on their faces. I think I need a tissue.
Oh, and check out today’s randomly chosen Pop Oracle song from the R8B app. It’s from The Moore Brothers, who will be opening for The Kinetics on July 12th. This synchronicity thing really works!
POP ORACLE Song of The Day (May 12, 2019): THE MOORE BROTHERS “Fresh Thoughts of You”
You Really Got Me
Girl, you really got me goin’
You got me so I don’t know what I’m doin’ now
Yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I can’t sleep at night
Yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I don’t know what I’m doin’ now
Oh yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I can’t sleep at night
You really got me
You really got me
You really got me
See, don’t ever set me free
I always want to be by your side
Girl, you really got me now
You got me so I can’t sleep at night
Yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I don’t know what I’m doin’ now
Oh yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I can’t sleep at night
You really got me
You really got me
You really got me
Oh no
See, don’t ever set me free
I always want to be by your side
Girl, you really got me now
You got me so I can’t sleep at night
Yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I don’t know what I’m doin’ now
Oh yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I can’t sleep at night
You really got me
You really got me
You really got me
