Ethnically Ambiguous
(Part 2):
Shereen Lani Younes
with
Andras Jones &
The music of Mary Lou Lord
From ANDRAS JONES: I love how the timing of this episode is working out. Before diving into our next musical divination with the hosts of ETHNICALLY AMBIGUOUS we talk Democratic party politics and Bernie (and his Bros?). That’s certainly in line with the news of the day as Joe Biden entered the presidential race yesterday. (Now that’s a “bro”). After this super-fun digression with two of my favorite podcast hosts we get into SHEREEN LANI YOUNES‘s question. She’s not just a podcast host, she’s also a film director. When Shereen was on our episode with Abby Weems she spoke of directing Potty Mouth videos, and here is her short film FALL, in which she also plays the lead character.
And here’s the trailer to CAPERNAUM, the film Shereen discusses as the set up to her question for The Pop Oracle, a question that is answered by a song written by MARY LOU LORD.
And in a nifty twist of sync, today’s randomly chosen Pop Oracle song from the R8B app is from Dan Bern who was Mary Lou Lord’s labelmate on WORK records in the 90’s. “Work” and “Breathe”. Two good pieces of advice for Shereen, and anyone trying to achieve a big dream.
POP ORACLE Song of The Day (April 26, 2019): Dan Bern “Breathe”
Some Jingle Jangle Morning
by Mary Lou Lord
Your memory is all you left behind
Somewhere it all got crazy
oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh hooo
oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh hooo
Song about a sun beam song about a girl
Your voice still rings and echoes in my mind
So many words unspoken so
many worlds apart
zy and now it’s like a dream
And I knew that I blew it from the start
I was too freaked out to deal with it all
And too fucked up to care
I stood right there and watched it fall apart
Now LSD and Ecstasy don’t help me
And my dance with Mr. Brownstone got too rough
Will you wake me without warning some jingle-jangle morning
We’ll fly away to heaven on a star
Cause I love to watch you walk
And I love to hear you talk
But there’s nothing I can say
To make you feel the same way
Now my friends are all I have now
But they’re so far away
They all moved out of Seattle and back to L.A.
They ask me how I’m doing
And I ask them if they’ve seen you
But no one sees much of anyone these days
Now LSD and Ecstasy don’t help me
And my dance with Mr. Brownstone got too rough
Will you wake me without warning some jingle-jangle morning
We’ll fly away to heaven on a star
Cause I love to watch you walk
And I love to hear you talk
But there’s nothing I can say
To make you feel the same way
the same way
