BEAUTS do BEAT HAPPENING
From ROY IVY: What a delight it is to be in the same room as Bonnie Tarses. She’s a weaver who weaves her tales like looms, an astrologer who makes you think Saturn truly matters, and a self-defined Roxy-Boxy who is probably the biggest cheerleader of Missoula’s one and only art theater.
In this episode, Bonnie will have you drooling over the leatherbound hunkiess of young Patrick Swayze as she gushes over the 1979 skateploitation classic, Skatetown USA. You can catch a beat-up VHS copy on YouTube, if you have to, but the best way to see it happened here in Missoula on March 4 of 2019, when the Roxy Theater granted Bonnie her birthday wish of seeing this rolling flesh-fest in glorious 35mm.
Bonnie also asks the Pop Oracle a tough question for all of humanity: “How do I free myself of plastic addiction? Is there a life after plastic?” Having lived a life mostly without plastic, Bonnie’s question makes you mistful in these days when whales are washing up dead with gullets full of soda bottles. But the Pop Oracle makes you wistful with its choice of Beauts’ lovely take on Beat Happening’s “Indian Summer.” It’s a song that makes you sentimental for a innocent time that never really existed, like most great songs do.
POP ORACLE Song of The Day (April 20, 2019): The Mona Reels “It’s Because They Are In Love”
INDIAN SUMMER
Breakfast in cemetery
Boy tastin’ wild cherry
Touch girl, apple blossom
Just a boy playin’ possum
We’ll come back for Indian Summer
We’ll come back for Indian Summer
We’ll come back for Indian Summer
And go our separate ways
What is that cheerful sound?
Rain fallin’ on the ground
We’ll wear a jolly crown
Buckle up, we’re wayward bound
We’ll come back for Indian Summer
We’ll come back for Indian Summer
We’ll come back for Indian Summer
And go our separate ways
Motorbike to cemetery
Picnic on wild berries
French toast with molasses
Croquet and Baked Alaskas
We’ll come back for Indian Summer
We’ll come back for Indian Summer
We’ll come back for Indian Summer
And go our separate ways
Cover me with rain
Walk me down the lane
I’ll drink from your drain
We will never change
No matter what they say
