Joey Capoccia
&
Kendl Winter
From ANDRAS JONES: JOEY CAPOCCIA of The Pine Hearts showed up at our sessions with a bleeding head wound but he didn’t let that stop him from fully engaging The Pop Oracle of his spouse KENDL WINTER‘s music. I assume he’s all healed up because tomorrow the two are playing a show a Valentine’s Day show at McMennamin’s in Bend, Oregon. We’re all pretty snowed in here in the northwest this week and any winter drive to Bend is usually a slippery experience, so I hope they get there safely. Kendl and Joey actually had to cancel a much anticipated show at the ABC House this week during our blizzard but never fear Olympians, the two will be returning for a show at Octapas on February 22nd with former R8B guest Eleanor Murray.
POP ORACLE Song of The Day (February 13, 2019): RAINA ROSE “Blue Bonnets”
Pull on the Reigns
Grandpa took me for a season when my parents weren’t doing so well
i wanted to go roller skating, i went fast and of course I fell
grandpa put a bandaid over, bought a bag of buttered corn
sat me down and arm around me said without a hint of scorn
you gotta learn to slow down a little
when a little’s all you know and a little’s what you got
pull on the reigns, get off your high-horse,
learn to put your saddle on before you learn to trot
grandpa lived out in Montana
i dropped out of high school on a whim
took a road trip to the big sky just to go and visit him
he asked me what i planned on doing
i told him I was going far
he said that all sounded alright soon as I returned my mother’s car
you gotta learn to slow down a little
when a little’s all you know and a little’s what you got
pull on the reigns, get off your high-horse,
learn to put your saddle on before you learn to trot
when i had my second child, and the father left me scared
my grandpa helped me move on out, my grandpa let me live downstairs
every morning fed the chickens
every morning milked the cows
every morning he’d serve breakfast then go work those long day hours
i found him in the field one evening, when his supper had gone cold
he’d laid down quick with a heart attack, he looked peaceful in the soil
in his will he left me livestock, left me land, and tools in the shed
he left me lonesome, he left me wise, and a handwritten note that said:
you gotta learn to slow down a little
when a little’s all you know and a little’s what you got
pull on the reigns, get off your high-horse,
learn to put your saddle on before you learn to trot
i learned to weed the garlic and onions,
plow the field, harvest corn
i learned to take the cattle out
and i learned to put a saddle on
my little girls, they watch me closely
we go out riding in the fields
they’re always wanting to go faster
don’t I know just how that feels
you gotta learn to slow down a little
when a little’s all you know and a little’s what you got
pull on the reigns, get off your high-horse,
learn to put your saddle on before you learn to trot
