Nilsson Tribute:
Rick Torres
&
Kiefo Nilsson
From ANDRAS JONES: RICK TORRES showed up at the session to play guitar with Morty Coyle and Jordan Zevon on “Perfect Day”. Little did he know he’d be asking a question and joining in to play on other songs throughout the night. If you’re following along you may be noticing a certain flow that might appear planned but I can assure you was not. Jordan Zevon talked about being inspired by “The Point” and got a song from that album as his answer. Curtis Armstrong talked about how his favorite album is “Duit On Mon Dei” and then his answer came from that record. Now we have Rick asking a question about “Coconut” and getting “I’ll Never Leave You” (performed by Kiefo Nilsson) as his answer, both songs appearing on “Nilsson Schmilsson”. This and the ease with which the Wheel of Eight avoided doubling up on any songs is fitting for Harry Nilsson whose compositions have that same effortless air of inevitability. Those who believe in ghosts (and I am not a non-believer) might think the song is telling us that we were and are being haunted, pleasantly, by Harry.
I’LL NEVER LEAVE YOU
Some nights I go to sleep without you
The river’s far too deep without you
I can’t make it alone
I need you by my side
Some nights I spend alone without you
The river’s far too wide without you
Oh, oh, oh, I can’t make it alone
I need you by my side
I
I’ll never leave you alone
I’ll never leave just a memory
I’ll never leave you alone in the garden where nothing grows
I love you so much, baby
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
