Sheldon Gomberg
&
Ford Pier
From ANDRAS JONES: SHELDON GOMBERG and FORD PIER are collaborators through me, on the “All You Get” record we discuss in this Pop Oracle session. Sheldon is mixing the record in LA in the present. Ford recorded most of it in Vancouver in early 2002. The interim feels like the eye of a tornado. I’ve attached the “All You Get” track Sheldon was mixing the day we recorded this session. It’s called “Spin The Bottle” and features Ford Pier on most of the instruments (including the bass) and Frazey Ford on vocals.
Sometimes the sync happens during the show. Mostly after. And occasionally, as is the case here, the sync lines itself up beforehand. That’s when it’s tempting to try and orchestrate it. When you can see the alignments coalescing the temptation to nudge it into place is overwhelming. The art of being a Radio8Ball host is in pushing this balance to its limit, leaving room for random perfection while reaching toward the harmony between the guests and yourself (and anyone listening in sync). That’s certainly the case here as we cycle through discussions of some of my favorite obscure bands and artists. Candypants. Tony Gilkyson. Ambrosia Parsley. NoMeansNo. Duke McVinnie. D.O.A. It’s a rogues gallery of “famous” bands and artists you’ve probably never heard of. Well, maybe you’ve heard of a some of them but probably not all of them, until now. You’re welcome.
