Fred Schruers

Tracy Bonham
From ANDRAS JONES: Today we welcome author, journalist & podcaster FRED SCHRUERS to the realm of The Pop Oracle for a session with his friend TRACY BONHAM. His question about the conflicting influences of forgiveness and revenge on world history gets a great answer in the form Tracy’s song “One Of These Days” but all I wanted to talk about was Billy Joel. Fred wrote Billy’s biography and I got to tell him about my friend Mike Ruekberg‘s epic Facebook thread “I wish Billy Joel spent as much time defending me as I spend defending him”. It was a good day.
ONE OF THESE DAYS
It’s a chilly cold December
It’s the kind we’ll all remember
I hold you close and rock you tight
into the afternoon
Water boils into a whistle
the kettle calls and I abide
I feel the chill beneath my socks
as the daylight shadows slide
One of these days
One of these days too soon
One of these days you’re gonna walk right out on me
You’re a rainbow full of color
casting stars with chlorine eyes
brighter than this static cold glassy afternoon
But everyday is a little closer
to the time when I’ll wipe a tear
not from your eyes but from mine
cuddle up my dear
’cause….
One of these days
One of these days too soon
One of these days you’re gonna walk right out on me
One of these days you’re gonna walk right out on me
