From ANDRAS JONES: The Fremont Abbey casts a shadow over this episode of Radio8Ball with TOBIAS THE OWL. It’s where Shit Ghost saw Tobias play. It’s where Tobias The Owl and Jonah Tolchin performed together. And it’s where today’s guest BRENT JAMES DRISCOLL oversees the sound. Brent’s question about what we might think about our clone were we to meet them is worthy of this very heady philosophical session with Tobias The Owl.
Tobias’s chosen totem is often associated with wisdom.
That spirit courses through the veins of this particular synchronicity trip.
An abbey, despite the religious overtones, is traditionally associated with contemplation and study.
In the case of Radio8Ball, what we study and contemplate are music and synchronicity, a practice which was inspired by my father’s dream seminars. The Tobias The Owl song “Sing Me To Sleep” touches on dreams and music.
My father, Richard M. Jones, wrote many books about dreams and education. The book he was working on at the end of his life and never finished was titled “In Dreams We Kiss Ourselves Goodbye”.
This is something we might ponder as we consider how we might relate to our clone and how this song relates to that question.
Sing Me To Sleep
i’ve squandered all my decembers
as leaves were falling from the trees
and i awoke in a sea of delusion
that soaked all the insights of my dreams
so lay me to bed
and sing me to sleep
until the morning erases me
and drown in your dreams
and empty your thoughts
and make me a memory
because by the daybreak that’s all i will be
the dust turns to ash in my footsteps
the sidewalks are cracking and crossing my path
the coffers i carry are running on empty
the portraits i’ve painted have faded to black
so lay me to bed
and sing me to sleep
until the morning erases me
and drown in your dreams
and empty your thoughts
and make me a memory
because by the daybreak that’s all i will be
