DEAD ROCK WEST
From ANDRAS JONES: Exene marks the spot! Part 3 of our Pop Oracle session with members of X and DEAD ROCK WEST welcomes punk rock poet artist chanteuse EXENE CERVENKA. You can hear I’m kind of flustered and impressed to have her on the show. When I was a young singer-songwriter trying to make it in LA she was like the queen of the scene. While Hollywood was pumping out hair metal and pop divas in the late 80’s Exene and her compatriots were where the art was happening at places like The Iguana Cafe (which I referenced at the top of this episode).
Exene’s question about “true love” syncs up nicely with some of the earlier divinations on the show. For example, she asks about TRUE love and Peter Case asked about FAKE news. He got Hwy 1 and Exene got a reference to the ACE Hotel. The Pop Oracle seems to be pointing us in the direction of unity (1, Ace) as the answer to those in search of purity in TRUTH or FAKE-ness. That’s one theme running through this episode. The other comes from D.J. Bonebrake’s question about what the world needs more of. He was looking for love and he got “stereo”. Likewise Exene is looking for love and what she gets is “Singing On The Telephone”. Clearly, we are being told that love is harmony.
