D.J. BONEBRAKE
&
DEAD ROCK WEST
From ANDRAS JONES: As we continue our three part non local synchronicity session with members of the landmark LA punk band X we come to drummer D.J. BONEBRAKE, also a member of DEAD ROCK WEST. Mr. Bonebrake is a highly in demand session cat. Sometimes this leads him to appear on tracks he had no idea he played on, such as “Murder Ballad #35” from the Andy Dick CD “The Darkest Day of The Year“. I wrote the record (with Andy) and produced it (with Willie Wisely) back in the early part of the millenium. This track added the immense songwriting chops of Anya Marina, another member of the San Diego scene that spawned Dead Rock West, and the fiddling prowess of Lili Haydn. I couldn’t help but ask D.J. if he had any memory of appearing on this track and of course he didn’t.
How does this relate to D.J.’s question, “What does the world need more of?”
Well, he was clearly fishing for the album’s title track “More Love” as the answer, which almost never works, but it is instructive to our interpretation. He was hoping for love and what he got was stereo. If we make an equation of this where LOVE = STEREO, and we follow the synchronicities of the “double DJ’s”, the Dead Rock duo, the X trio, and the coming together of Anya, Andy, Willie, Lili & me, what is the common denominator?
What does the world need more of? COLLABORATION!!!
