From ANDRAS JONES: We’ve had the Be. We’ve had the Bop. Now here’s the Lula of BeBopALula. I’m talking about Spirit Kid EMEEN ZAROOKIAN and his inscrutable question. Forget about the question for now. We’ll get to it momentarily. This series with our guest CHRIS PRICE’S bandmates is all about dynamics. There’s a particular feel to a band hanging out and I think it’s pretty well captured here. Band culture cultivates a benign brand of doublespeak. Goofy. Cryptic. Aloof. Knowing. Insider. All words that fittingly describe the tenor of band talk to those who witness it from the outside. I’m still not sure what Emeen means with his question or if he’s just taking the piss. No matter, I’m pretty good at finding meaning in the most meaningless questions and pronouncements. “Do Ya Know What I Idi Amin Amin?”
ANODYNE
I’m finally on my way
I can do anything
I’m so in love with living
Can’t keep this stupid smile off my face
There’s no more reason to cry
No aching pain inside
There’s nothing left but sunshine
I think I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be
I see the people walking around
Half-alive, melting down
Don’t they know how easy it can be to put their broken heart at ease and drift away
You cured the malady
Rushed in and set me free
I can’t believe you found me
This is the greatest day of my life
But everybody’s walking around
Half-asleep, breaking down
Don’t they know you’re everywhere and everything and nothing else will ever matter
Just you
I’m finally on my way
I don’t feel anything
