Dino Stamatopoulos

Eleni Mandell
From ANDRAS JONES: For the first guest in our Pop Oracle session with ELENI MANDELL we are joined by birthday boy DINO STAMATOPOULOS. Dino was our first musical guest on this series and he’s basically the reason we got hooked up with Starburns and Feral Audio. We were taping unaware the wave of #metoo was just cresting above us, about to come crashing down. Just days after this taping the revelations about Feral founder Dustin Marshall came out, followed by word that Feral Audio would be closing up shop and Starburns Industries would be POTENTIALLY starting their own podcast network. And just this week Starburns’ other big shot Dan Harmon had his own #metoo moment, which many (myself included) think he met with humility and intelligence. Since we started this podcast series we have been attempting to foster intelligence (which I define as the willingness not to know and remain in the inquiry), engage difficult conversations, and inspire an awareness of synchronicity. I am as challenged by these concepts as anyone and, when I’m not fretting over how this is all going to play out, I am also inspired by them. Like Eleni, I love the planet earth. This moment, captured herein, happened there. For you who, like the hawk in her song, circle high above the mountains of our mole hills, can see the big picture I’m sure it all makes sense in a way that we who are at the mercy of the elements could never know. Oh yeah, and happy birthday Dino.
I Love Planet Earth
The sun reflected on a passing car
Flashed like a signal or a star
I saw myself die
Under an oncoming semi
Wanting to say I love planet earth
One road goes through the reservation
With one casino and one gas station
Rusted, VW Bug upside down by the side of the road
Wanting to say I love planet earth
Acres of golden hills before us
Turn blue and lavender, too
In the rearview mirror
If I was a hawk I’d circle the mountains
Set sail moon over Oklahoma
Spindly trees lead you to New Orleans
Wanting to say I love planet earth
Majestic, red rocks stand like walls
Black clouds, like fists, beat the sky
God help us all
If I was the land I’d wear my hair down
If I was the sea I’d follow the sun
If I was the sky I’d open my arms
Wanting to say I love planet earth
