Marshall Thompson
&
Vivian Cook
From ANDRAS JONES: I’m sure many of the more amazing synchronicities on Radio8Ball seem planned to the listener but I promise you they are not. Like this one. It’s tempting to think that, leading up to Christmas, we’d choose to go full-on Christian for a musical divination. I promise you, my intentions were the exact opposite. I wanted the majority of the episode to be about the controversy at KAOS but a couple of people I was saving a spot for (members of station management and the woman who harassed me at the station) chose not to join us, so we got creative. Keyboard player Marshall Thompson hadn’t asked a question on the show yet so I invited him to engage The Pop Oracle. Fortified with the spirit of the lord (and the beer I’d purchased for the session) Marshall took us to church, not exactly the most comfortable place for me, but it’s not like I prioritize comfort on this show, so it’s all fair. Fortuitously, and unbeknownst to me, our musical guest Vivian Cook was a theology major so she was more than equipped to guide this divination. And her song, which invokes drugs, whores and kombucha, had plenty to offer those pagan listeners who seek the divine in earthly pleasures. God bless us everyone.

Your girlfriend, she hates me
Cuz everybody knows you tried to date me
And she think I made you cheat
Well, I think that’s kind of sweet
Cuz we both know I be black out
Every time I let you get down
So I can play the whore
But girl you know you want me
More x 5
Ya see that indie chick in the front row
Yeah, she been puttin on quite the show
Tryin ta get the front man to notice her
And I’m up against the wall with the drummer from the opener
Oh, tell me again how you’re so insane
Do so many drugs
Are in so much pain
Baby, don’t you know all girls want are arms and rhythm?
Then you’ll have em screamin more x 5
So now it’s just you and me
Drivin on kombucha, coke, n oxy
Are you ready
For what you came here to see?
Cuz we both know you’ve been tryin ta read my mind but
Be sure you’ve exhausted all the options
Of what you might find
Cuz I know why the raven cries
Nevermore x 10
