Tom Petty Tribute
For Tom
with Paul Zollo
&
Nate Hertweck
with Marshall Thompson
From ANDRAS JONES: Dearest lovers of Tom Petty. This final Pop Oracle reading of our Tom Petty tribute was simply, heartbreakingly, perfect. On more levels than you or I can fully comprehend yet. I’ll tell you this. It was a bumpy, fractious road to this reading and I wouldn’t trade a second of it. We end with two of the most supportive, unassuming musicians; guys of tremendous talent and empathy, resurrecting a track that maybe no one would think to mention but provides an ideal closing coda to our proceedings.
RUNAWAY TRAINS
written by Tom Petty & Mike Campbell
She’s up there all alone
I’m down here changing lanes
Her room was dark and cold
I’m listening to the waves
And I’m depending on time, babe
To get you out of my mind
[Chorus:]
I guess it’s one of those things
You can never explain
Like when an angel cries
Like runaway trains
Like one of those times
That’s never the same
Like when something dies
Like runaway trains
She says “I understand
I’m used to being alone
And holding my own hand.
I’m stronger than you know”
[Chorus]
Don’t blame me
[Chorus]
