Tom Petty Tribute
The Stevie Question
with Paul Zollo
&
Jeff Cleveland
From ANDRAS JONES: It’s really all in the tracks on this one with a heartbreaking performance from Jeff Cleveland, Nate Hertweck & Marshall Thompson of the band Dinosaur Tooth, and insightful commentary from Paul Zollo. Just a couple things to add…
1. A possible answer to my question about why Stevie never joined The Heartbreakers can be found in the documentary “The Defiant Ones” Episode 2, and it’s initials are J.I.
2. I love 99% of Paul’s points of view in this show but if I was sitting with Tom Petty and he said the reason he didn’t work with Stevie was because he wasn’t into sharing his band with another great songwriter I would sit back, look him in the eye and say… “Um…respectfully…bullshit…Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynn. You love working with great songwriters. You are one of the greatest and most generous collaborators in rock and roll”. I get that Paul has an impossible job, standing in for Tom, and he does it admirably but only Tom could really answer The Stevie Question.
HUNG UP & OVERDUE
I’m so hung up
I’m gonna go see her tonight
I’m so hung up
I can’t get her out of my mind
Could be just stars in my eyes
Could be this one happened twice
[Chorus:]
We’re overdue for a dream-come-true
Long time nothing new
We’re overdue for a dream-come-true
She said she’s going
To move to California one day
Said she’s going
Out on safari to stay
She’s tired of her job and the snow
We both need somewhere to go
[Chorus]
I’m so hung up on her now
I’m so strung out on her now
A gift from the sun to the moon
I hope something changes soon
