From ANDRAS JONES:
This Pop Oracle session with PETE MOLINARI at Unison Studio on May 30th, 2019 is our independence day at Radio8Ball. Our first post-Starburns session. So chock full of mind-blowing, spine-tingling synchronicities that I can only imagine what’s here that I cannot yet see. My question is accompanied and informed by a new song that I chose to debut here for Pete and his pal BRUCE WITKIN. The song is called “Absolutely No Sense of Humor” and every word of it is true. It’s not just true in the journalistic sense, which it is, but it’s also true in the metaphorical sense. To understand this you’ll need to check out our session with The Mormon & The Meth Head, which is inexorably wound up in this session no matter how much I try as a host to avoid it being so.

I just realized that when I played the song on May 30th it was still called “Fucking Hilarious”. I don’t think Pete’s song “Absolute Zero” influenced the re-titling (“absolutely no sense of humor” was already a lyric in the song) but it is a sweet sync that I was unaware of when we recorded this.

So it appears we’re starting out our session by dealing in absolutes, which is a fertile field for artistry, if not in actuality. As with all revolutions, they begin with an absolutist spark but things get nuanced really quick if you’re paying attention. Are you?

For instance, it’s pretty cool that with all the Elvis Costello artwork on the wall at Unison Studio, the randomly chosen Pop Oracle song of the day was written by Elvis and Paul McCartney. And of course, Elvis is the author of the song “Less Than Zero” which lent its title to the Bret Easton Ellis novel and the Robert Downey Jr. film based upon it.
