Live Archive
Radio8Ball as a live event is a container for capturing synchronicity. Below you will find documentation and testimonials about previous shows. It’s an expanding archive and if you have pictures, video or stories to share, please get in touch. We’d love to include them here.
Maybe the great musicians we’ve had on the show like it because people REALLY listen and engage the songs in a way we don’t usually do at concerts. Maybe the celebrities who have joined the show (mostly via Skype) do so because it’s an easy way to do something different where they get to ask the questions, instead of the other way around. What is undeniable is that every show yields more synchronicities than any one person can grasp.
These are just some of the totally impressive people we’ve had as guests over the years…

This episode of Radio8Ball was filmed on August 8, 2014 at Rhythm & Rye in Olympia as the opening event of the 2014 Olympia Sync Summit. Andy Shmushkin hosted the show. The musical guest was Peter David Connelly of the Olympia band The Mona Reels backed by The Radio8Band. The celebrity guest who asked the final question was Mark Hosler of Negativland, a groundbreaking media activist group Will Morgan explored in his sync film collaboration with Bodie Doggins. Ezra Sandzer Bell, the creator of Tone Color Alchemy gave an opening presentation, and the questions came from a rogue’s gallery of classic Olympians, as well as a couple of Sync Summiteers.

The Radio8Band tributes The Posies
with Jon Auer & Ezra Sandzer-Bell
June 11, 2014 06. 11. 2014Paul Pearson of The Radio8Band is an accomplished music blogger. He has documented his experience with The Posies tribute Radio8Ball Show below. To view and listen to the show, check here.
“So I think what all the great records and great songs say is, ‘Hey, take this and find your place in the world. Do something with it, do anything with it. Find some place to make your stand, no matter how big or small it is.’ And maybe in some fashion that directs you toward some sort of honest life. That’s a pretty wonderful thing for a record to do. Particularly since it only costs about ninety-nine cents.”

What the heck were we doing putting on a Radio8Ball Show with Grant Lee Phillips and Celebrity Skype-In Mary Lynn Rajskub at The Majestic, a multiplex cinema in suburban in Wisconsin? Well, we go where the fans want us and we had one VERY enthusiastic fan named Kelly Tanner who wanted us there, and she made it happen. Will Morgan created a Sync film about Mary Lynn for the event. I’m not sure everyone knew what to make of us but I loved hanging in Milwaukee and I had a fun radio interview with Grant Lee. I also got a huge kick out of the fact that, while we were at the theater, they were holding a “Sink Show” in the lobby, with displays of lots of different kitchen and bathroom appliances. Sync show. Sink show. Hilarious!

The Oly Music Awards
with Sandman:The Rappin’ Cowboy
& Dino Stamatopoulos
in Olympia, Washington 05. 05. 2012
Four years after KAOS 89.3 FM removed Radio8Ball from Olympia’s airwaves, KAOS fundraising coordinator, John Ford (who has claimed the reason for our removal from our Tuesday 6 to 8pm slot was that we were “unpopular” and “not very good”), found himself synchronistically forced to give Radio8Ball an award, at The Capitol Theater, for being both popular (our award category “Experimental Music” was voted on by fans) and good (well, that’s just obvious).

The Young Evils in West Seattle, Washington 05. 07. 2011
In the days leading up to their triumphant assault on Sasquatch 2011, KEXP darlings, The Young Evils joined Andras Jones for the second night of a three night stint at The Skylark Cafe & Club. Yes. that is comedian Derek Sheen onstage in the picture.

Andras Jones rarely plays shows anymore, but when he does, it’s usually for Radio8Ball.In May of 2011, The Skylark Cafe & Club in West Seattle hosted, what was supposed to be, three nights of Pop Oracling. The first night with Andras Jones performing the music, the second night with The Young Evils and a final night with the return of The Janks. Unfortunately, at the last minute, The Janks couldn’t make it, which was a bummer but the other two shows went very well.

The Janks blew everyone away with their pop intensity at Theater Off Jackson in Seattle on 10/10/10 with a celebrity Skype-In from Patricia Arquette and an opening comedy set from the adorable Barbara Holm. Jake Kotze created a sync film exploring Patricia’s sync web and we got some great audience questions. Notice the line when the clock hits 10:10:10 on 10/10/10.

Daniel Pinchbeck writes about synchronicity and other psychedelic utopian topics. He and Andras have all kinds of history.
Daniel joined Radio8Ball via Skype at Theater Off Jackson to ask his question, though exactly what it was, we can’t recall. No doubt it was a good one. Helen Chance played some great songs and comedian Ross Parsons offered his dour insights. We had us a swell time.

The Music of U2 performed by Flora McGill & Electron Love Theory with Eden Sky & Ezra Sandzer-Bell in Seattle, Wa 06. 20. 2010
U2 were supposed to be playing in the same neighborhood as Theater Off Jackson that night but Bono broke his back on May 27th, their show at Qwest Field was postponed, and this show made a lot less sense than it would have, had the streets been full of U2 fans. Flora McGill performed great jazz versions of U2’s hits. Eden Sky Skyped in with a question about “natural” time. Ezra Sandzer-Bell offered a Tone Color Alchemy interpretation of U2’s “Vertigo”, and Emmett Montgomery kept us all guessing whether or not he was serious. For the record, he is.

In 1988, Andras Jones was one of the stars of “A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master”. Occassionally he is invited to reunite with his fellow castmates at horror conventions around the world to sign autographs and reminisce about getting brutally murdered onscreen. In 2010 several cast members converged on Everett, Washington for the Crypticon convention. As part of this event, we presented a special Radio8Ball on Elm Street with Rodney Eastman as the musical guest, Robert Englund as our celebrity Skype-In, and appearances onstage from Toy Newkirk, Amanda Wyss, Brooke Bundy and Heather Langenkamp. We’d love to do more of these.

This was one of our best shows at Theater Off Jackson. In part because Tracy is a wonderful and talented musician; in part because her friendship with Weird All Yankovic led to him agreeing to be our Celebrity Skype-In; but mostly because of the deep connection Tracy’s audience has with Tracy and her music. When the audience has a profound context for the music, Radio8Ball goes from inspirational to sacred very quickly.

Dan Bern wrote most of the best songs for the film “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story”, which starred John C. Reilly. Having them both on Radio8Ball at Theater Off Jackson is a perfect example of the kind of booking synergy we aspire to on Radio8Ball.

In what has become of one of the most watched video segments in the show’s history, for the spring equinox of 2010, we were joined by Seth Green and Olympia’s Twig Palace at Theater Off Jackson. Surreal Seattle-ite Emmett Montgomery opened the show with his comedy, and Jake Kotze contributed a Sync Video exploring Seth’s sync web.

Karl Blau & Michelle Tea in Seattle, WA 03. 10. 2010
Hollow Earth Radio is a very indie internet music station in Seattle. They invited Radio8Ball to take part in their 2010 Magma Fest fundraiser at The Henry Art Gallery. K Records artist, Karl Blau was the musical guest. Khaela Maricich of The Blow was originally scheduled as the Skype-In guest but after a scheduling conflict she had to be replaced by author, Michelle Tea. It was a fun show but the lighting (as you can – or can’t – see) was a little bit dark. -
This Radio8Ball collaboration with Hollow Earth Radio at Theater Off Jackson featured the one man Pica Beats, Skype-Ins from the writer of “The Attic Expeditions” Rogan Russell Marshall, and horror legend, Jeffrey Combs (with a sync film about Combs from Jake Kotze) as well as an opening comedy set from Travis Vogt.

Here’s one for the record books, R8B favorites Sandman: The Rappin’ Cowboy, Jake Kotze & comedian Nicole Lucas join us for a deep, dark February Pop Oracle at Theater Off Jackson. Sandman’s songs were, as always, great. Jake Kotze, who would go on to produce several sync-films for our Celebrity Skype-In guests, premiered his “Jennifer Juniper” exploring the sync web around Jennifer Connelly, and Nicole Lucas brought her sexy funny schtick to the opening.

Andy Dick was scheduled to appear on Radio8Ball at Theater Off Jackson as a Skype-In guest on January 24th. On the 23rd he was arrested at a comedy show in West Virginia where he was accused of non-consensually groping dudes, so we weren’t sure if he would be able to make the show. Luckily, Andy’s old comedy partner Dino Stamatopoulos agreed to fill in for him. He was hilarious, irreverent and insightful. Probably a better guest than Andy, but we got both of them and Andy’s appearance was such a pure and terrifying glimpse into the abyss that is his life, it probably rises to the level of great art (or total trainwreck). Through it all Levi Fuller played beautiful music and was a great sport about the madness falling all around him. Comedian Andy Wood opened the show
