The Pop Oracle song of the day for January 30, 2015 is Shmushkin’s cruel “Goodbye Stalker” sounding like something straight out of 1979. Not the punk 79 that everyone thinks they would have been hip enough to be a part of at the time, the Juice Newton, Air Supply ’79 they probably would have been grooving to.
Of course, I was just 11 at the time so I have an excuse. But is an excuse really necessary? A mature listener can like The Clash AND Michael McDonald at the same time.
Good boundaries needn’t always be cruel but when someone just…won’t…stop, a harsh word can be a cold glass of water to the ego. I have been on the other end of many such a revivifying splash and it doesn’t feel good. It doesn’t feel good being cruel either. That’s why I had Shmushkin do it for me with his sweet voice and synthetic charms.
I’d sure love to share this with Heidi Love. She and I were married for 11 years. She’s the one who taught me about boundaries, and she’s teaching me still.
