From ANDRAS JONES: SHELDON GOMBERG mixed “All You Get”. He’s also worked with Rickie Lee Jones, Inara George, Eleni Mandell, Peter Case, Dave Alvin, Jackson Brown, Sorry About Everything, Tracy Thielen & Candypants. With his question for The Pop Oracle he’s attempting to rig his sync but synchronicity is more slippery than even a slippery cat like Sheldon can out maneuver. “Who is she and what does she want?” is his query, answered by the song “Record Store”. This song isn’t on “All You Get”. It’s my newest. In my passionate explanation on the show I talk about the record store that inspired it; Funk Fuzz in Olympia; owned by Johnny Baltimore and often staffed by Scott Taylor (seen in the picture above) who played the bass and keyboards and sang back vocals on the recording of “Record Store” that’s at the end of this podcast. Now, I don’t want to bum you out but just this week Johnny Baltimore announced that Funk Fuzz is closing, which kind of takes the joy out of the line “My town still has a record store”. Funk Fuzz is the place I’ve been imagining “All You Get” greeting Olympia. That won’t be happening but I did venture downtown yesterday to take a picture with the album mock-up in the featured rack. I guess that’s all I get.
RECORD STORE
My town still has a record store
You don’t see many of ‘em ‘round no more
I used to be on the radio
Yeah Yeah – Synchronicity
Yeah Yeah – Baby you and me
Every Tuesday night from 6 to 8
We would chaotically congregate
Aw but the boring haters couldn’t wait
Yeah Yeah – For synchronicity baby
Yeah Yeah – Thinkin’ you and me maybe
Gotta Recognize, De-Escalate & De-Code
What’s that you ask?
Is my town still a community
Well, maybe hypothetically
I used to be on the radio
Yeah Yeah – Synchronicity baby
Yeah Yeah – Thinkin’ you and me maybe
Gotta Recognize, De-Escalate & De-Code this situation
Otherwise might as well say goodbye to our…radio station
Recognize, De-Escalate & De-Code this situation
I’m talkin’ ‘bout the truth and the reconciliation
Mandella style – Yeah, Yeah
My town’s still got a record store
