Andras Jones
&
Myra Flynn
From ANDRAS JONES: MYRA FLYNN is this week’s guest on Radio8Ball. Even months later, I am still reeling from the experience, and not just because she corrected and contradicted me and kept the show on track when I got distracted by the great conversations. When Brian Bender and Gabriel Gordon suggested Myra as a guest for the show I hadn’t heard of her. As is often the case when we have an artist on the show who comes highly recommended and with whom I am unfamiliar, I avoided listening to her stuff before taping. I’ll admit, this is in part a factor of putting out a daily podcast. Time is short, as is my attention, but I also really love capturing an authentic first reaction to someone’s art. You’ll hear that here. Myra, by all accounts, is a very successful artist who tours and records with great people, surrounds herself with talent and soul, and even has a burgeoning wine business on the side. That said, I don’t know why Myra Flynn is not a major star. She combines raw talent with a rigorous intellect, an easy sense of humor and with serious awareness of purpose and history, a nerdy focus on process with an easthetic beauty that, were I not tasked as the host of the show, would probably intimidate me into the corner of the room as unworthy of her presence. What I’m saying is she shines real bright, and what more could you ask for the solstice show? Bring on the light Myra! I could go on like this forever but that would only further embarrass us both. I’ll just end with this. Very rarely do I meet a fellow songwriter who I think has the right balance of ego, humility and insight to host a Pop Oracle. Myra Flynn is just such a person and she is always welcome on our show.
POP ORACLE Song of The Day (December 16, 2018): MERCH “Water Balloon Bomb Song”
Carry Water
Verse 1:
No one’s ever brought me nothin’
I ain’t got inside of this house
I’ll put it in the corner with the rest of all this mess I’m proud of
But somethin about your flowers smell like
Nothin I have smelled before
Got me thinking something bigger than my inner God knows best
Pre chorus:
It’s been a heavy
Heavy rain
A heavy rain
Chorus:
So we gotta chop wood
Carry water
Grow the garden
Build a fire baby
Chop wood
Carry water
Grow the garden
Build a fire
And we’ll be loving perfectly
My king, my confidant, my better half of me.
Verse 2:
I ain’t got no language skills
in loving anyone beyond
the thrill of knowing someday I could leave
So I’ve got work to do in this agreement between me and you
Tell me how do you keep kept and tell me
How do you stay free?
When it’s been a….
