From ANDRAS JONES: DON HEFFINGTON is a serious cat. Click the link for a list of his illustrious associations, or just hang with us for 8 musical divinations with his friends PAUL ZOLLO, AMY ALLISON, DAVE ALVIN, JILL MARKEY, PAUL BODY & CHUCK E. WEISS. I start things off with a question about the irrational accusations of some of my Democratic friends that 3rd party voters in states that went for Democrats (like California, New York, Massachusetts, Oregon and my home state of Washington) are somehow responsible for Republican wins in states that went for Trump. I’m sure pointing this out will rile the corrupt, and the gullible, among us, but one of the big themes of this episode is Mose Allison, a songwriter whose muse took no prisoners nor ever failed to look deep into the cognitive dissonance of American madness with humor and intelligence. We must honor this spirit. Don is currently working on a Mose Allison tribute album with previous R8B guest Sheldon Gomberg and in honor of that me and Marshall Thompson worked up a Mose-y R8B theme for this episode and enticed Don’s bass playing compatriot Dominic Genova to join us.
KISS THE MOON GOODBYE
(Ann Harvey / Don Heffington)
TONIGHT I LOOKED INTO THE SKY
AND I SAW YOUr FACE IN THE MOON
THERE’S NO NEED TO SPEAK OF THE REASONS WHY
WE BOTH KNOW I’LL BE LEAVING SOON
OH I WISH THAT I COULD CHANGE YOUR HEART
BUT I’VE LIVED TOO LONG AND I KNOW NOT TO TRY
SO I’LL WRAP MY ARMS ROUND THE STARS TONIGHT
AND KISS THE MOON GOODBYE
LAST NIGHT I HEARD A CHURCH BELL RING
FOR THE SOULS WHOV’VE NEVER BEEN FREE
LIKE A SONG I ALWAYS KNEW YOU’D SING
THOUGH THE WORDS WERE NEVER FOR ME
OH I WISH THAT I COULD CHANGE YOUR HEART
BUT I’VE LIVED TOO LONG AND I KNOW NOT TO TRY
SO I’LL WRAP MY ARMS ROUND THE STARS TONIGHT
AND KISS THE MOON GOODBYE
SOLO
YES I WISH THAT I COULD CHANGE YOUR HEART
BUT I’VE LIVED TOO LONG AND I KNOW NOT TO TRY
SO I’LL WRAP MY ARMS ROUND THE STARS TONIGHT
AND KISS THE MOON GOODBYE
YES I’LL WRAP MY ARMS ROUND THE STARS TONIGHT
AND KISS THE MOON GOODBYE
