Andras Jones

All Day Sucker
From ANDRAS JONES: Like my question about the hidden swastikas on the ceiling of Canter’s, this episode is complicated and frustrating and full of Hollywood Jews. I’ve known Morty Coyle & Jordan Summers since the late 80’s when their band The iMposters was one of my favorites to share a bill with. Over the years they have always been really sweet and welcoming to me when I pop into their Tuesday night at The Kibbitz Room. Unlike many of my peers who stopped treating me like I was one of them when I stopped hustling for, and offering, live gigs and airplay around the country, these cats always treated me like our work in the past meant something. So when I got the idea to do a Canter’s themed R8B it felt like the perfect opportunity weave them into my show, something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. We usually have solo acts or duos on R8B and corralling any band into our little studio at Starburns is going to be an undertaking. It’s not just the logistics but band dynamics are different than individual dynamics and, as you will hear, All Day Sucker’s band dynamic had the tendency to overwhelm my intimate format and turn it into something else. That said, the Pop Oracle is as resilient as it is flexible and as you listen (which I hope you do) you may find the synchronicities held within to be revealing in ways that might be a little uncomfortable for all involved. If you’ve never been in a band or been to a Jewish dinner this is your opportunity to feel the joy and the frustration of both. For instance, we never really got to get into connecting my question with the randomly chosen song properly amid the wise cracks and pun-festing. Clearly, the song is telling us that the pictures we take of others reveal ourselves. Keep this in mind as you listen to the upcoming podcasts from this revealing episode.
The Picture (That Took Me)
There’s a picture somewhere of two people in love • And they’re doing all the things people do when • they’re together. • Now it’s hidden in a drawer with the odd paraphernalia • And I fetch it every time that I feel I probably failed you. • I don’t want to be in your memory. • I want to be in your arms. • I don’t want to be where you used to be. • I want to be where you are. • I was so sure I was right. • Oh yeah, I’m the big pretender. • Resignation in my eyes • while my smile said, “Love me tender”. • Now I stay up all night ’til my short sight is dilated. • Just a picture and I…Love you so much that I hate it. • I don’t want to be in your memory. • I want to be in your arms. • I don’t want to be where you used to be • I want to be where you are. (repeat) • Yeah, we really had something • Yeah, we really had something good • Yeah, and something good is hard to find • Yeah I really lost something • Yeah, I know I really lost something good • Yeah, and all I’ve got is this reminder • Yeah yeah yeah • Now you’re doing all the things people do when they’re together • And there’s a picture somewhere • But it’s turned down on a nightstand (one night stand) • I don’t want to be in your memory. • I want to be in your arms. • I don’t want to be where you used to be. • I want to be where you are. (repeat)
